I Won’t Forget

Victor2

This poem is dedicated to my father-in-law who recently passed away. We know he is in heaven with Jesus and he is happy there. We hope to carry on his legacy in the Lord. I love you, Papa!

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” -John 11:25-26

I can hear your voice, saying my name
just like it was yesterday
I can hear you say, “Son, I’m proud of you”
and I don’t want to forget
I always want to remember
your love filled my life
your voice spoke healing to my soul
my heart is aching in every corner
I can run, but I cannot escape what I feel
as tears turn to rivers
and my soul cannot find peace
Papa, I miss you, I don’t want to say goodbye
I just want to be with you
and in your embrace I want to hide

as years turn to memories
every moment I remember I will cherish
I won’t forget
I won’t let go, no I won’t let go
of your heart, your hug, your smile
it will always be a part of me
we will carry you with our children
Joseph has your name
Jacob has your spirit
your legacy lives on and will never die

I know now you are shining
like the stars in the heavens
like Abraham’s descendants
you longed for a home, a better place
you lived a life of faith
a life I want to emulate
but I cannot go with you
for my work here is not done
I must carry on… and remember

I remember what you taught me
character, responsibility, decision
I remember three things, I remember everything
to put God first, to make daily time for prayer
to put my family first, for it’s the most important thing
to meditate on God’s word and always walk in peace
to pray until my soul is satisfied in Him

I will remember, I will not forget
and one day we will be together again
in heaven
I’ll watch you burst through the door
and say with a smile, “I’m happy”
I’m happy just to be with you
I’m happy for the times God gave us together
I’m happy that He brought you into my life
one of the greatest blessings for which I could have asked

I will remember, I won’t forget
I won’t forget you
though you sleep, we never really say goodbye
because death is swallowed up in victory
though we feel its sting
Jesus is the resurrection and the life
to live is Christ and to die is gain
and we know we will see you again
until then…

I won’t forget you
I will carry on your legacy
I will fight to see Christ revealed in me
for that is what you would want
now you are a soul set free
no longer chained to the bonds of earth
now you are a seed released
may your life produce many more seeds
may your generations rise up on the foundation you have laid
and expand His kingdom in every place

we release you now to the realms of glory
where one day we will be with you
we will sit in heaven and tell our stories
in the place where no one ever dies
because Jesus is the resurrection and the life
I love you, Papa
I won’t forget
I will always remember you
your work on this earth is finished
may you now dance in heaven and rest in His peace

Little Seed

A poem for our son, Joseph…IMG_0783

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”
-Psalm 127:3-5

little seed
grow to be a big tree
an oak of righteousness
the planting of the Lord
little seed
what great joy you bring
the hand of the Lord is on you
for great and mighty things
little seed
you will be strong in the land
you will be powerful by His hand
as we contend with the enemy
at our gate
little seed
like an arrow
you will hit your mark
as you walk closely with the Lord
little seed
my quiver is full
a blessed man I am
to be Papa to you
little seed
stand up!
grow like a moist root
from holy ground
as we water you with His word
little seed
there will be weeds
and tares and thorns
that will confuse and perplex you
little seed
hold onto the seed
the word of God
and you will rule in the midstIMG_1519 of your enemies
little seed
beloved son
with you I am well-pleased
from the moment you were born
even before you were conceived
God told us about you
the great joy you’d bring
little seed
I remember your cry
when you broke the womb
and came to life
like a seed
our dreams had died
buried in the ground
precious tears, precious seed
came alive with you
oh the joy we reaped
little seed
we watch you grow
child on our knees
we rejoice in every progress
every crawl, every tooth
every giggle, every moment
little seed
our joyful dreamer
we will raise you up
to love the Lord
with all your heart
with all your soul
my little seed
may His heart you know
may you grow, grow grow
and go, go, go
to reap a harvest
my little seed

“Those who sow in tears
Shall reap in joy.
He who continually goes forth weeping,
Bearing seed for sowing,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,
Bringing his sheaves with him.”
-Psalm 126-5-6

The Mystery of Love

For Leslie50

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
-Ephesians 5:31-32

three things are a mystery to me
four things, indeed
the way of the snake on the rock
the ship on the sea
the eagle that glides on the wind
and the man with the lady
two imperfect hearts
perfectly bound as one
two intrepid souls combined
a fierce bond not easily broken
forever entwined
in the mystery called love

oh, how she drives me crazy
how she moves, she glides in my arms
she twists and she twirls
and sways unsteady in my embrace
this delicate pleasure
this inestimable treasure
how she delights me with soft touch
tender grasping, intimacy aroused
souls laid bare, wide open
she is joy and tantalizing delight
Oh, my sweet, I chase hard after you
in this mystery of love

you are exalted above all maidens of the earth
with fondness, you have my admiration
you are the fairest of them all
Snow White, Cinderella
we dance like a ship on the sea
my heart flies like the eagle
a lump in my throat
as I, mere man, behold the beauty
your tanned body
I am weak in my knees
as I am in awe of who you are
inside and out
it will take a lifetime to mine your treasures
study your complexities
ponder your mystery
captured and enraptured by your love
the beauty of the bride
I am lost for words
in this mystery of love

we are a word picture on display
revealing Christ and His church
I love you as my own body
washing you in the water of His word
your form is so lovely
your spirit lovelier still
I delight in your purity
lean on the strength of your character
you are steady like a rock
you flow softly like a stream
you are pure as the dove from heaven
and I find such sweet comfort
in your embrace
I find my home, in this mystery of love

His Banner Over Me is Love

“He has brought me to his banquet hall,
And his banner over me is love.”
Song of Solomon 2:4 (NASB)

I can hear the sound of the dinner bell
His banner over me is love
He has brought me to His banqueting table
His banner over me is love
I can feel the touch of the evening breeze
His banner over me is love

The table cloth is laid and the dinnerware is set

His banner over me is love
I can see the rush of the waterfall
His banner over me is love
The tender mist kisses my skin
His banner over me is love
The heat of the sun gives way to evening
His banner over me is love
The verdant hills are covered in soft amber glow
His banner over me is love
Tears of heartache give way to laughter
His banner over me is love
The night has passed, the day’s work is done
His banner over me is love
The porch swing welcomes as the sun is setting
His banner over me is love
But first we dine at the banqueting table
His banner over me is love
A feast for me, a crown on my head
His banner over me is love
We eat and drink to delight and content
His banner over me is love
“The time of singing has come
And the sound of love can be heard in the land”
His banner over me is love
He has brought me to His chambers
His banner over me is love
He tickles me with delight
His banner over me is love
His love was true in the darkness
His faithfulness was sure in the test
His eye was always on me
He brought me to a place of rest
Now I hear the sound of healing song
And I see the wide, rushing river
Now I know He’s been faithful all along
His banner over me is love
I can hear the sound of the dinner bell
As it sounds out both far and wide
I can hear the call to come and dine
His banner over me is love
He has prepared a table for me
His banner over me is love
I’ve got a reserved for fine dining at the Master’s table
His banner over me is love
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
His banner over me is love
My heart is full and my soul at peace
His banner over me is love
My dreams He has kept with watchful care
His banner over me is love
Now my heart’s desire has found release
His banner over me is love
But first we dine and first we feast
Because His banner over me is love
