Our Wedding Day

Marriage Journey

Marriage is not easy, but it is worth it. Leslie and I have had our share of struggles, adventures and joys. We know that God brought us together for His purpose and we are committed to our marriage journey for life. A few years ago, the Lord gave me a song in a dream. The simple lyrics were, “This is our home, this is our vow, make this place a habitation for your glory now.” This has been our goal for our marriage, that God would make our home a place of His habitation and glory.

This page is also dedicated to insights regarding marriage, as we seek to hear God’s voice for our marital unions. I’m still a relative newbie at marriage, having only been married for just over 5 years. But whatever season of marriage we are in, we are all always learning. Here, I will share insights I am learning in my marriage. Join me on this marriage journey!

Dreams from God

Several years ago, the Lord spoke to me through a dream. The year was 2000 and I was living in my home state of Michigan. I was 21 years old and seeking God’s direction for my life. This dream is one of the first “God” dreams I received in my life.

While I was in high school I was profoundly impacted by an inner-city ministry called Metro Ministries based out of Brooklyn, New York (now called Metro World Child). I am from a small town in Michigan, population approximately 2,500. Nonetheless, I thought God had called me to be an inner-city pastor. One night while praying at the church altar, I asked the Lord, “Lord, if you’ve called me to the city, give me a city.” It wasn’t a prayer I anticipated God would answer, at least not in the way He did.

That next Saturday night, during our worship team practice, my pastor prayed, “Lord, speak to us in our dreams tonight.” That night I went home and dreamed a dream.

In the dream I was driving around a city with my best friend. I asked a couple of people what city we were in, but they would not tell me. Then, a voice from the sky said clearly, “Dallas, Texas.”

I woke up the next morning with an sense of excitement. I got my Road Atlas and found Dallas on the map. I had never been to Texas before. In fact, the farthest south I’d been was Washington D.C., when I was 8 years old. I tested the dream and it became clear that God was speaking to me.

I drove to Dallas with a friend to check out a Bible college in the Dallas area. While in Texas, I had a sense of peace about moving there. During the trip, we so happened to drive by a different Bible school called Christ for the Nations Institute. We didn’t stop, but upon my return to Michigan, I called them. I spoke with a school adviser for about two hours. The door was open for me to attend CFNI. A few months after my dream, I was living in Texas.

I’ve now lived in Texas for the last 18 years, which includes a 3-year hiatus in Virginia to attend law school. Being in Texas has led to many blessings in my life, including meeting my wife. God connected me with a wonderful church where I’ve been able to grow in many different ways, both in developing my character and the gifts God has given me. Moving to Texas was one of the best decisions I ever made. It started with a dream of the night. Today, most of my immediate family has migrated south. My parents and youngest sister live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and another sister lives in Oklahoma.

Dreams have played a vital role in my life. Yet, like Joseph in the Bible, my dreams have also tested me (see Psalm 105:19). My “Dallas, Texas” dream was a dream of almost immediate fulfillment, but God has given me other dreams that have yet to be fulfilled. I have one dream in particular that I’ve been waiting on now for almost 17 years. Of course, not every decision in my life has been led by a dream. Also, not all dreams are for the purpose of decision-making. Some are to impart truth, give revelation, provide affirmation, minister encouragement, or even speak correction.

The focus of this blog page will be to share dreams that God has given me and the truth I believe God has revealed to me through them. Of course, every dream must align with the truth of the Bible. I hope these truths will be instructive to you as well, and an encouragement to you in your spiritual walk. The broader purpose of this blog page will be to understand how God leads, to discern His purpose for our lives and to inspire you to reach higher as you seek to hear God’s voice and walk in His calling on your life. In other words, although “dreams” is the theme of this page, I realize that God speaks to us in a variety of different ways. I want to impart to you lessons I have learned in hearing God’s voice and help you hear God and fulfill your calling.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” -Romans 8:14

His Banner Over Me is Love

“He has brought me to his banquet hall,
And his banner over me is love.”
Song of Solomon 2:4 (NASB)

I can hear the sound of the dinner bell
His banner over me is love
He has brought me to His banqueting table
His banner over me is love
I can feel the touch of the evening breeze
His banner over me is love

The table cloth is laid and the dinnerware is set

His banner over me is love
I can see the rush of the waterfall
His banner over me is love
The tender mist kisses my skin
His banner over me is love
The heat of the sun gives way to evening
His banner over me is love
The verdant hills are covered in soft amber glow
His banner over me is love
Tears of heartache give way to laughter
His banner over me is love
The night has passed, the day’s work is done
His banner over me is love
The porch swing welcomes as the sun is setting
His banner over me is love
But first we dine at the banqueting table
His banner over me is love
A feast for me, a crown on my head
His banner over me is love
We eat and drink to delight and content
His banner over me is love
“The time of singing has come
And the sound of love can be heard in the land”
His banner over me is love
He has brought me to His chambers
His banner over me is love
He tickles me with delight
His banner over me is love
His love was true in the darkness
His faithfulness was sure in the test
His eye was always on me
He brought me to a place of rest
Now I hear the sound of healing song
And I see the wide, rushing river
Now I know He’s been faithful all along
His banner over me is love
I can hear the sound of the dinner bell
As it sounds out both far and wide
I can hear the call to come and dine
His banner over me is love
He has prepared a table for me
His banner over me is love
I’ve got a reserved for fine dining at the Master’s table
His banner over me is love
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
His banner over me is love
My heart is full and my soul at peace
His banner over me is love
My dreams He has kept with watchful care
His banner over me is love
Now my heart’s desire has found release
His banner over me is love
But first we dine and first we feast
Because His banner over me is love

Generations Discipleship

Welcome to the DISCIPLESHIP pageIMG_0189

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. -Romans 8:29

The goal of this page is to encourage you in your quest to become like Jesus. Let’s take a journey together into the heart of God as we seek to be conformed to the image and character of Jesus Christ. I’ll be posting here on topics like prayer, faith, surrender, meditating on God’s word, truth, etc.

Several years ago the Lord led me to move from Michigan to Texas. You can read more about that story here. It was a step of faith and the beginning of what has been an exciting adventure in my life. During my first drive to Texas, I took the fuzzy photo below while driving down the highway. Walking with God is a quest to know Him, be like Him and fulfill His purpose. My journey has been filled with detours, setbacks and disappointments, but it has also been full of unexpected adventures, surprises, blessings, and wonderful experiences with the Lord.

It’s been over 17 years now since I moved to Texas. I’ve learned a little bit on this journey that I’d like to share with you, truths that I believe will help you on your journey. I’ve never regretted following Jesus. There have been times of deep disappointment in my life, which God has used to mold and shape me into His image, but also times of great joy. I’m certainly still a work in progress! My hope for this blog is to inspire and challenge you in your journey of walking with God.

Join me on this great adventure of following Jesus!
